Abstract:
The objective of this study is to establish an immediate release Amlodipine
(5mg) and Atenolol (50mg) tablet (a multilayer tablet) based upon the physical
properlies of granules and prepared tablets. Multi-drug tablets of amlodipine
besylate and atenolol were prepared as either mono-layer (mixed matrix)
containing each drug in a separate layer by using similar excipients and
processing. The combined dosage form is beneficial in the treatment of
cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, Angina pectoris, and Myocardial
infarction. Before going to evaluate the o/o release of a drug, it is necessary to
develop a suitable formulation first and then apply the correct tablet
manufacturing process to obtain the required sample. In the designing of the
tablet, the excipients and tablet manufacturing technique plays an important
role. The sample is then compared with other market products currently
available, in terms of their % dissolution rates. This study gives idea on how
different excipients and manufacturing techniques can be used to formulate
and hence develop a sample of a combined dosage form and compare its rates
of dissolution with other market products. Accordingly we can get an idea of
the performance of the developed tablet in relation with its competitors.
