<title>Grand Narratives and Postmodernism: Critical Evaluation</title>
<link>http://dspace.ewubd.edu:8080/handle/123456789/3851</link>
<description>Grand Narratives and Postmodernism: Critical Evaluation
Yousuf, Syed Tanvir
The context of my research is a very complex one. In my research I&#13;
have critically evaluated how postmodemism denies grandnarratives and the&#13;
different perspectives of postmodemism counter grandnarratives.&#13;
I offer criticisms of grandnarratives in terms of the different perspectives&#13;
viewed by postmodemists. I have also made my effort at literature review. I&#13;
have studied a lot of scholarly works on the subject, and among them the&#13;
texts of John Storey and Barbara Epstein helped me a lot to go for a&#13;
critical standing.&#13;
I did not include chapter division and other conventional things as I&#13;
did not feel them necessary in terms of the pattern of my study.&#13;
Thanks are due to my supervisor Dr. Fakru1 A1am, from whom I&#13;
came to know a lot of things regarding my topic, and whose guidance and&#13;
assistance were helpful. ThankS are also due to Dr. M. Shahidullah from&#13;
whom I came to know about the methodologies of research in the&#13;
'Research Methodology' course that he offered.

<description>An Evaluation of the Present Classroom Techniques Used for Teaching and Learning English in Bangladesh
Hossain, Syed
This research is intended for teachers and researchers interested in&#13;
English teaching and learning. It will give them a clear view with proper data to understand the real situation of teaching practice in English classroom of&#13;
ngladesh. The study seeks to find out the actual practice of English teaching in&#13;
Bangladesh. The study focused on the teachers' and learners' roles and the&#13;
interactional pattern in classroom to check whether the traditional teacher inductive grammar practice is still the fashion, or student centered&#13;
interactive, skills focused-teaching-Iearning has replaced that. For this research I have followed classroom observation in which I had to&#13;
observed some of the classes and collect data. Along with the observational&#13;
method I have also used the questionnaire and interviewing method. Questions&#13;
were made for the teachers and students for their opinions. Some of them were&#13;
have ended and some were closed forms.

<link>http://dspace.ewubd.edu:8080/handle/123456789/227</link>
<description>An Evaluation of English Textbooks of class VI,VII, &amp; VIII
Jalil, Fatema
The topic for this study is evaluation of the English text books of class vi, vii &amp; viii.
It is well known that language performance or language learning is psychological processes that involves the ability to record, or takes the inputs and convert into outputs or skills. The study with the acknowledges the fact that English Language skills of our students are very bad. A number of reasons maybe responsible for this, like problem with the teachers, students, textbooks and methodology. This study however concentrates on examining materials and text books and tries to see how far the currently used textbooks are effective for training the major skills and their sub-skills of English to the students of our country. No systematic study has so far been done in our context to evaluate the English text books of class vi, vii &amp; viii and find if there are any problems and make suggestions for overcoming those problems. Methodology for this included using a checklist, prepared through expensive literature review in materials evaluation, to evaluate the books through opinion survey of teachers and students. The data was collected by the researcher from 5 schools (public/private) of the country. The questionnaire survey was administered to 90 students and 10 teachers. The result showed that the respondents emphasized authenticity of the textbooks. Many respondents referred that the materials has less authenticity. So as a researcher my task was to give some suggestions of how to improve the text books as skill based authentic text books.
